TAG Heuer Professional Timing, the timekeeping branch of the world leader in sports watches and prestige chronographs, is proud to reissue one of the most legendary products of the Swiss brand: the famous Heuer RALLY-MASTER speedometer. Initially launched in 1958, the RALLY-MASTER consists of two time reading modules, positioned side-by-side — a clock with 8 days of power reserve on the left side, and a 12-hour chronograph located on its side. right. This legendary time-measuring on-board instrument underwent several evolutions over the following decades, finally being discontinued in the 1980s. The new Swiss Made edition consists of the original MASTER-TIME piece, a 15-stone mechanical on-board watch , with center seconds and 8-day power reserve, and the famous AUTO-RALLY, an 11-stone mechanical chronograph to 1/5 of a second with a single window at 6 o'clock and a disk jumping from 0 to 12 o'clock.

Exciting research work

Following a long and meticulous search in the company's archives, TAG Heuer Professional Timing found the original plans and the list of components for the two HEUER RALLY-MASTER movements. The development of the HEUER MASTER-TIME and its Caliber 28 with balance stop and shock-resistant lever movement was particularly long. By working directly with the original team, already in charge of developing and assembling the movement—Eric and Dora Montandon of the Swiss company Montandon & Cie—the TAG Heuer Timing engineers were able to successfully recreate a New version. This is positioned to the left of the HEUER AUTO-RALLY chronograph, fitted with a complication movement based on the Heuer Caliber 7780 movement, with a single window at 6 o'clock, jumping disc from 0 to 12 o'clock, and start, stop and restart by crown and return to zero by pusher . The MASTER-TIME thus communicates the time of day –official time-, or the total time of the event, while the AUTO-RALLY gives the total duration of the journey or the effective time of a stage.

A legendary product becomes a new icon

This remarkable mechanical on-board instrument, positioned on a double-layer stainless steel plate, was able to restore the spirit and appearance of the original 1958 product identically. The white hands form a perfect contrast with the intense black color of the dial. The impact-resistant glass is made of plexiglass. The grade A super-luminova numerals, indexes, hands and sliders on the black aluminum bezel reinforce the original look of the piece, as do the HEUER logos engraved on the dials. Associated with the respective names of the movements, these fully underline the denomination: “made in Switzerland”.

The RALLY-MASTER was available at TAG Heuer's Professional Timing department located in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Presented in a box with a cream interior, and fixed on a removable support with silver stitching, it brings to a close the year of celebration of the 150 years of the TAG Heuer brand in the automotive world and represents an important moment in the history of watchmaking.
